Former Vice-Chairman of Nutrition, Royal Society of Health; Past President, European Union of Science Journalists’ Associations, Brussels; Former Chairman of Science Writers, Society of Authors, London; Former Vice-Chairman and Head of Entertainments, The Savage Club, London. Zoological Secretary, Member of Council and Surveyor of Scientific Instruments, Linnean Society of London; Chairman of History Sector and Member of Council, Institute of Biology. Director of National Science Centre (UK), the Van Leeuwenhoek Institute (USA) and McCrone Research Institute (USA); formerly Director of British Mensa Ltd. Personal BBC programmes include Science Now and Where Are You Taking Us?; has appeared on Any Questions? and Newsnight. Over 80 editions of his books have been published world-wide.
